I have a couple a nephew in the music business. His biggest hurdle is electronic media. If you don't get your music carried by the iTunes, Google, Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, etc, you don't have a chance.
His point is that the market is fragmented. If a person has bought-in to one service, he/she is not likely to use the other services. Because of the customer behavior, you have to spend a bunch of time getting your stuff on many networks.
