I just found this on Netflix. Apparently it was a big deal back in 2017. It was a big hit for Starz. Has anyone else seen this series? I'm infatuated with Caitriona Balfe. The sex is almost X-Rated. WOW!

I read the first book after a friend recommended it, and the impression I'm left with years later is that i remember it alternating between cringy romantic dialogue and too many paragraphs describing swollen milky boobs. even my friend who's a very feminist woman said the constant talk of lactating breasts got old quickly haha.

Never went to the second book and definitely didn't watch the tv series. perhaps the sexual scenes were interesting on-screen but written down they just got in the way of things, it was like when a lovemaking scene comes on during a film you're watching with your parents; just too cringey for everyone involved ----------------------

I managed to get through the first season of it, and maybe halfway through the second, but the last couple episodes of the first season were .... rough.

Really the whole time-travel thing is what drew me in, but that seems to be just a macguffin to tell stories about 18th century sex.

I'm amazed at the realizim of the series. The ancient buildings and the clothing that is worn. They really put in a alot of work to make the era as accurate as possible. I can't imagine todays women dressing like that. No birth control neither. Every time you got laid you may of knocked her up. And if the woman was found out she was labled a whore. And don't forget being accused of witchcraft and being burned at the stake. No medical care to speak of so witchcraft was a very real choice. Yikes!

Great series. I have watched it up to the middle of last season when I still had free Starz offer going on. My sister read the books while watching the series, and they stayed very close to the books. Ron Moore did a great job writing and Bear McCreary's awesome musical score evolves along with the historical events and timelines. If you watched Battlesar Galactica, you'll notice he uses the same singer for the Outlander theme.

It's neat to watch how strange life was back then. Even moving into the 20th century silly things that were done for aethetics were dangerous. During the construction of the Panama canal the hospitals would dres sup their social areas with rubber tree plants. When the ants began attacking the plants,
they placed the planters in slightly larger pots, then filled the middle void with water. This attracted mosquitoes, so you had a greater chance of
getting malaria in the hospital than in the jungle.

Agreed. I was very suprised they let them get away with that. The oral sex is also over the top for television.
