When I hear "deserted island," my assumption is that I did not make it
there on purpose but probably as the result of some catastrophe in the air
or at sea. So, the likelihood that I packed my favorite movies, music, or solar panels, and that they made it ashore with me, seems slim. :)

Now, if I was going on purpose, I might very well take several things with
me. Still, though, I doubt I would take music or movies as those things
would run down my power. I would probably take books, with require no
power (during the day anyway) and necessities.

I have actually thought of that before. There are several small islands in
the Great Lakes that are not inhabited that do contain old,
disused/abandonded lighthouses, for example. They are not so far from land that one could not get back to civilization if one needed to restock. There
are also some uninhabited islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Most of those I have looked into don't have any trees, either, so they get boiling hot most sunny days, although one of those does have some small abandonded light station just big enough for shelter from the Sun. They'd also take some resources to get to, and would likely result in some legal difficulty should the US government come by doing an inspection.

So I am back to if I am on a deserted island, it is probably not by choice.

And we all know what "assume" means. :D To me the question implied a level of planning, sufficient enough to choose what music to enjoy.

Now, if I was going on purpose, I might very well take several things

As I said, solar power is more than enough, been there, sone that. A portable solar panel can generate enough power for modern portable devices, and more. As long as you have enough battery for the night. But a phone uses bugger all, when out of range. I went from 100% for a day to 10% when camping out of cell range. :)

So I am back to if I am on a deserted island, it is probably not by choice.

No one said you couldn't bring stuff with you. That's exactly what ham radio DXpeditions do - take a heap of radio gear, antennas and power sources to a deserted island, to "activate" it for DX chasers for a limited period of time.

I made no such assumptions, and if there was talk of having music there, it's more likely that would result from a planned expedition to the island. Afterall, ham radio DXpeditioners do just that - take themselves, a heap of radio gear, antennas, and power sources to remote (usually uninhabited) islands, so they can operate.
