AND she said the moonlanding was fake.

Would have been more fitting if she had held out for 88 more days.

And no she didn't. there are some great stories about her meeting with the Apollo 11 astronauts. Armstrong had a coughing fit in her face (he had a cold), and Michael Collins almost fell down the stairs because he was trying not to turn his back to the queen (as is tradition)

the queen was an (imho) icon of the modern day and age. as a brit, I was her subject and served her in the armed forces and am actually covered by the official secrets act to this day lol.

that said. she WAS 96 and had never really been ill up until this past year. heck... even on tuesday she was still her normal sweet smiling and joking demeanur that she had always been.

I wonder what had happened since tuesday cus it does seem like a complete 180 degree turn.

I know she got the 'rona in february from media reports, but she seemed fine since.

People were bitching "oh she's using a cane to walk etc"... SHE IS BLOODY 96 Years old for petes sake. what 96 year old doesnt use a cane.

    makes you think.

as for your dates, i never really thought about it that way lol. but what does make me think is what's going to happen now with that nutjob son of hers who is king. and also, i wonder if the passing of the D of E had anything to do with it cus you know they do say taht "once a person loses their long time partner they have about a year"...

Hopefully that does come true in my personal case because my dad died this time last year and my mom isnt in the best of health either lol. I dunno if i could handle that one just yet.

    Anyway..

To Her majesty, you served your people well.... R.I.P

covid does some weird shit with our hearts and with blood clots.
apparently vaccines don't escape that. so MAYBE the vaccine would make symptoms less worse. i'm not sure if they prove that. i'm not sure they can prove the vaccine saved lives. we just need something better than what we've got.

i might die of covid. i've had it twice already. I do not get sick with anything else. not for decades. I was sick last year and this year with it. that shit killed my mom and who knows if it did something to my heart or body.

we have to get better at operations and grow organs.
even then when if your circulatory system is borked you are screwed.

maybe transplant brains into a fresh body.
actually that one tv show altered carbon had a good idea. just upload the consciousness into a fresh body that's setup to accept it.

observation is that people who makes it to extreme ages have a tendency to keep their brain quite straight. It is as if there was a goalpost past the 88 years with a sign which read "if you reach this place, you can keep your brain til you die."

Really? That's great to hear. I'm very fearful of dementia...I feel like

    I
can see the trait in my father already and he's in his 60s. Or maybe he's just a doofus.

Losing my mind and having dementia is my biggest fear. my mom worked in a nursing home and brought me through the crazy ward when i was a kid.

I really do believe that if you keep your mind active you are less at risk of becoming that way. Or, at least you will stave it off.

I lost one of my grandmothers about 4 years ago at 96, and my other couple months ago, also at 96. Part of why I scoff to a large exten the idea that we're suddenly going to increase the human lifespan by meaningful metric.

Part of me wonders if we should really strive for that anyway if quality

    It depends.

I get to see a whole load of really old people at one of my jobs and my observation is that people who makes it to extreme ages have a tendency to k their brain quite straight. It is as if there was a goalpost past the 88 yea with a sign which read "if you reach this place, you can keep your brain til you die."

Maybe it is just sample bias.

One of the reasons they have residents in old folks homes or assited living play games or have music night where they sign is to keep the mind sharp. Singing uses different parts of the brain than speech because tones and rythm are as important if not more than words, and playing an instrument also restructures coordination and muscle memory.

i imagine teaching a computing language (or even a foreign language) would stimulate structured thinking. My parents used to play crossword puzzles and see who could finish first. After my mother passed away, I haven't seen him doing as many puzzles. One of my father's cousins is worried about
Alzheimers, and his doctor told him to write his "memoirs" and write about random stuff that happened in his life. I volunteered to help proofread
parts of it. If a TV series was made on his writings, people would tune in week after week to see what could possibly get worse.

Yeah, there's a lot to be said for neuroplasticity. Turning into a couch potato late in life is probably not good for the brain...

It's interesting you say that. My dad retired at like 66 or something and now he's too old to actually do the things he wanted to do throughout his life. Traveling is physically tough for him.

My wife and I aren't rich by any stretch but we do have a plan to retire around 50, at which point we can live modestly until the end. But we'll be able to travel and see the world and do things we want to do without being too extravagant.

I'll probably end up bored and find something to do. My dad says that he has no problem not working at this point, he says it feels very natural haha.
