What if we use more than one? (I use both Google and OpenDNS, as I've had periodic issues with both)

I use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, since they were just recently released. They're supposed to be faster than other options, I'm guessing it's because of how massive Cloudflare's network is. I used to use OpenDNS before that because of the passive filtering it offered for spam and attacks.

Please ignore my previous post, was using a different edit that I was struggling in using. :(

Anyways, since I am able to control my router fully again, I am able to get all of our networked deviced to go through content filtering.

OpenDNS has a good system with that. Unfortunately, most of my internet connection these days is behind a VPN, and setting a custom DNS server behind the VPN virtual adapter makes some clients horribly confused. PrivateInternetAccess is reasonably good though, and offers its own content filtering, so I can't complain too much.

tl;dr, one dot or opendns are my picks if/when I have the need to configure them :)

I've got 2 kids and swear by OpenDNS. I crank the settings down, and it reminds me when I want to browse anything that gets blocked by the kid filters to nail up my VPN.

What I'd like to do is be able to lock down YouTube more -- there's a parental filter that works, but it's not as solid as I'd like.

I use it too but I feel it's not that stable as others.

I used NameBench 1.3.1 (google it, its free) and they are not always the fastest (for me).

I've set my DNS settings on my router to use OpenDNS free parental filtering, and I'm pretty impressed on how it works. My original intent was to get the basic filtering in an attempt to block potentially scam sites, and then I figured, "why not get the free parental filtering?" It's actually got me a peace of mind about our Internet connection. It seems a tinge faster in the end.

Well as we know nothing is free. I am curious how much of the data they examine and sell to advertisers. Likely OpenDNS does what Facebag does and is simply packaging up the demographic and selling that info.

On another note, Norton has a free dns service now too, but same deal. Likely selling your traffic for $$$

I pay my IP to handle that. If there is a problem I hassle them about it. Other then that I live by these words: If it aint broke. Dont fix it!

I know this is a little old but here I am :) The answer is, it depends.

My router uses my ISP as primary and backup using Google. I use my own DNS servers on my VPS servers and Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as extra backups.

I usually use my VPN's DNS service as using your IPSs DNS with VPN creates what is called a DNS leak.
