Earbuds have not become much better.

Typical headphones interfere with my glasses and they get uncomfortable, whi is why I use a monocle with the headphones. I am sure it looks hypster as he but who cares.

how can headphones mess with your glasses. they are on two different parts of your head.

and why would you use a monocle instead of glasses.

    this is all crazy

The glasses are supported by the nose and the ears. The headphones are placed over your ears.

If you ever try to go shooting with ear muzzles and glasses at the same time you will realize the glasses negate the effect of
the muzzles because they prevent the ear protection from sealing well around your ear. If your glasses are any bulky I can
assure you it will get uncomfortable after a moderate amount of time.

Monocle is to be comfortable :-) I could as well ask why use a full set of glasses if you only have vision issues in one
    eye...

I do like proper headphones for serious listening, but when out walking or on hot days, earbuds are better, because they don't get sweaty.

Glasses have those arms that go back and somewhat wrap around your ears. Headphones could press on those.

Precisely this. Depending on the exact design of the headphones, ones glasses, ear shape, and what have you, it can sometimes be incredibly irritating to wear glasses and headphones for any real length of time.

I got a pair as a gift a few years back that, while they were great, I simply could not wear when out as I would have to take my glasses off to not have my ears hurt within minutes of wearing them. It was nothing but home listening for those, and nothing else while at that.

I've pretty much exclusively used earbuds since the early 2000's for the above reasons....

Haha, I bet such look gives you advantage when playing Monopoly.

Wearing a monocle is seen as a weird excentricity these days. I only wear mine when alone at home or when meeting friends.

Er, shooting without eye protection is monumentally stupid, bud.

I have no issues wearing glasses and over-the-ear protection when shooting. Sounds like you just need better muffs.

    I don't. I just use plugs nowadays :-)

It is not that muffs are no use if you wear glases. But you lose half the sound attenuation easily.

I haven't experienced any problems with over the ear hearing protection, except when shooting prone. I use the foam "in the ear" hearing protection
    for those situations.

I've been really happy with Bose around-ear headphone options...
relatively light, comfortable around my ears and better than average
sound quality. Anything I've tried with better sound is always
    uncomfortable to me.

Currently using the first generation of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0756CYWWD/

Again, I know that they aren't the best sound, but definitely in the
better than most and good enough category while being incredibly
comfortable for my big head and ears.

Not sure how thick the "legs" on your glasses are, but the wrap around safety glass design doesn't protrude as much for me to perceive any issues regarding
a good seal. I have a pair of 30 year old Silencio's that has maintained
good vinyl/ rubber covers over the foam, and they seal well around the limbs
of the safety glasses. Once my employment situation improves I will buy a
set of digital noise cancelling hearing protection.

at work i wear safety glasses and over the hear headphone style ear protection. doesnt even touch.

at home i have some cheap headphones i only use for the mic. wearing glasses now and put the phones on and nothing is touching.

Maybe if you're using headphones that just sit on the earlobe, they might not touch the arms of the glasses. But if you're using the kind of headphones with the rubber(ish) padding that wraps around the ears, those might touch.

There are also noise cancelling hearing protection that goes in the ear like
