Azores Airlines set an endurance record with the Airbus A321LR in early January. The Portuguese airline operated a charter flight from Lisbon to Bogota, covering a distance of more than 7,500 kilometers non-stop.
The flight remained in the air for 9 hours and 49 minutes. With that, Azores Airlines took over the previous record from the Canadian Air Transat. That flew from Montreal to Athens in October last year without a stopover, in 8 hours and 20 minutes. In addition, the total distance traveled was slightly greater.
The Airbus A321LR is the Long Range variant of the A321neo. The type has a standard flight range of 7,400 kilometers, but due to favorable weather conditions and without full load, both endurance records were set.
Airbus also offers an eXtra Long Range variant of the A321neo, under the name A321XLR. It has a range of 8,700 kilometers.
